چکیده

Abstract This paper discussed domestication strategies of Tinfoil barb from different populations for evaluation potential fish candidate freshwater aquaculture development. Collection and maintenance wild-caught adult was the first step in followed by characterization fish, broodstocks selection maturation, control reproduction, larval rearing. The presented an excellent performance to adapt new environment. indicated survival rate acclimated captive environment about 69.28 ± 19.64% five weeks. Toxicity of malathion to silver barb (Barbodes gonionotus Bleeker) fingerlings

Static bioassays were performed to observe the toxic effect of malathion to Barbodes gonionotus at 0.0 to 20.0 ppm concentrations. Malathion at 5.0 ppm was harmless to B. gonionotus and concentration above 6.0 ppm were found to be lethal. Malathion at 2.06 ppm was safe for the B. gonionotus.

Methyltestosterone-induced changes in electro-olfactogram responses and courtship behaviors of cyprinids.

In the tinfoil barb (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii; family Cyprinidae), we previously found that increased olfactory sensitivity to a female prostaglandin pheromone could induce sexual behavior display in juvenile fish treated with androgens. Here, we determined if this phenomenon is widespread among cyprinid fishes by adding 17alpha-methyltestosterone (MT) to aquaria containing juveniles of 4 cypr...

Use of low-cost chemotherapeutic and medicinal plants against Thai silver barb (Barbonymus gonionotus)

Studies were conducted to select and apply the effective low-cost chemotherapeutic and medicinal plants against diseased fish under laboratory and field condition. Thai silver barbs (Barbonymus gonionotus) weighing 20-25 gm were experimentally infected with a virulent bacterial pathogen (Aeromonas hydrophila) and a fungal pathogen (Aphanomyces invadans). Based on the previous studies, four chem...

Aquaculture Sustainability: Developing Concepts of a Decision Support Tool for Licensing Freshwater Cage Aquaculture in Ontario

Approaches to managing aquaculture’s sustainability have traditionally focused on a relatively few, but important, environmental impact parameters. A broader and more contemporary concept of aquaculture sustainability has now evolved to include various other parameters considered relevant to those multiple stakeholder groups who may be affected by the industry and its practices. Consequently, t...
